The book

The book

About course designing not only for course designers

„I don’t think I should define the main idea of the course designing. It is possible that it can’t be defined. Although, in my opinion, it is needed and it will always be.”

As it can be read from the title, this book is not only about the people’s work that is behind the process of building a course. It is way more than that. If a trainer wants0 to gain a good improvement with the horses and the riders it is elemental to have at least a basic knowledge about course designing. It is necessary to know which jumps to put in the warming up arena and why. The knowledge continues with building lines and combinations of jumps, to be clear about the distances, and the effects of the different kind of jumps. If the trainer can understand the ideas of the course during course walking, the explanation to the rider is easily done and the success will come.

I recommend my book to:
My trainer and course designer colleagues, future trainers, riders, to their parents and for everyone who is interested in the past and the present of Show Jumping.
Yours Sincerely

Postscript

Those things that are missing from the book – without my own fault.

If the readers got through my entire book in details it may come to their mind that:

• This topic is complex in a lot of levels, which is true about the course designer’s work and about the work of the show jumping trainers as well,
• The method of the course designing – if not necessarily in big dimensions – is always changing and the trainers and the riders needs to be up-to-date if they want to have success in their work

The jumping courses found in the book are not completely perfect. It was partly my intention; if you found my mistakes, I think you are in a good path of improvement. On the other hand I would like to make the readers understand that all of us can make mistakes and we do make them. Obviously if you are well prepared, have the theoretical background and the practical experience it all reduces the percentage of mistakes.
If course designer colleagues went through my book, they may have realized that a lot of interesting and important things should have been written in there. That is my opinion as well. One should look at this book as an unfinished piece of work, and use it with other experiences and knowledge in order to gain success.
